How to give the dog a massage

Due to the unconditional love, loyalty, affectionate ways and protectiveness a dog shows its family, it is considered as man’s best friend. A massage is one of the ways by which a dog owner can pamper the pet to repay the dog for the difference it has made on the quality of people’s lives. All dogs would love to receive attention from their owners. Similar to the effects of massage to humans, dogs would get loads of benefits from massage too.

The therapeutic benefits of a dog massage have helped a lot of dogs with various medical conditions. The services of a well trained massage therapist are necessary if the objective is to improve the health of a dog with a serious medical concern. Aging dogs weighed down with joint and muscle pains will be given a new leash to healthier life as regular massage improves blood circulation and better functioning of all the systems of the body.

Massage can greatly benefit physically and emotionally stressed dogs. Pet parents resort to massaging the dog stressed by the rolling sound of thunder and by the resounding sounds of New Year and 4th of July celebrations. Massaging the dog is a great way to establish pet-owner and pet friendship.

A dog would love a massage thus a pet owner should not hesitate to pamper the pet . In spite of the fact that dogs love to be petted, other individuals not accustomed to being touched would not enjoy a massage. Dogs adopted from animals are kind of aloof and refuse to be touched as they are either abandoned or abused. Massaging a small dog would not be too much trouble as you can have the pet to lie on your lap. However, bigger dogs would need a firm but well padded surface like a table or a couch. Start the massage with slow stokes from the head to the tip of the tail. Using light pressure, gently scratch the dog behind the ears, the cheeks and the chin taking extra care in rubbing the area between the eyes.

Use the hell of the hand to make circular motion on the neck of large dogs. With the same circular motion but with a little more pressure, move the heel of the hand to the shoulders and chest of the dog. For smaller dogs, you can use three fingers instead of the heel of the hand. Be sure to follow the hair growth direction so as not to cause the dog discomfort. On the inside of the leg, the stroking should be against the direction of hair growth.
