Dog owner’s Responsibilities

There are certainly good reasons for giving the dog the title “Man’s best friends”. The steadfast loyalty, the affection and the in inherent desire to protect the human family make dogs the most popular choice for a pet. A dog for a pet though is a big responsibility. Anyone that would not take on the responsibility of caring for a dog should not get one for a pet and get a toy dog instead. Dog ownership is a serious commitment that would last until the dog lives. This means that abandoning a pet that is becoming a nuisance is not an option as a responsible dog owner would find ways to resolve the concern.

Dogs have survived in the wild without the help of humans. However, modern day dogs entirely depend on their human friend for their food as well as social and health needs. Aside from the nutrient-rich diet that is regularly provided for the pet, the owner would make sure that the pet is given vitamins and supplements. A dog owner has the responsibility to ensure the health of the pet thus a visit to the vet for vaccinations, worming and general check up is scheduled as soon as the puppy is taken home.

A dog would need to have a safe environment as these animals especially the puppies would need the care similar to the care needed by a baby. It is the responsibility of dog owners to provide outdoor dogs with adequate shelter. Dogs have high exercise requirements thus it is very important for owners to regularly provide the pet with opportunities to exercise.

A dog owner should see to it that the pet grows into a good canine citizen. This can be done by letting the pet undergo socialization and obedience training. Socialization is done by exposing the pet to new things and new situations. Obedience training not only teaches the dog to obey commands but even temperament is developed as well.

Dogs are loving animals thus they would thrive in an environment where they are shown love. One of the most important responsibilities of a dog owner is to set aside time to bond with the pet. Grooming the pet or playing with the pet everyday will strengthen dog and owner relationship. A dog no doubt will be a wonderful addition to the family but getting one must be carefully considered because dog ownership entails important responsibilities that must be done for the well being of the pet. Dogs can be a nuisance sometime thus anyone that is not committed to owning a dog must not get one as they are not toys that can be discarded once the owner gets fed up.
